Job Description

The Data Engineer will work from our Cluj/Bucharest office while collaborating with the Global MassMutual teams and provide support in the technical area. The person who will join this role will report to a local IT Delivery Manager. 

The ideal candidate in the role of Data Engineer is a hands-on person, who would be able to work independently or work in a team of other data engineers and various project stakeholders. 

In addition, you will analyze existing applications and recommend modifications which will enhance our operating capacity and meet business requirements.

The Team

The extended team under the Data Services & Platform Engineering is a combination of three squads responsible for two main applications: one is a policy migration system and the other a historical data repository platform. The full team includes scrum master, business system analysts, software engineers, data engineers, developers, and QA/testers.

The Impact:

  • Facilitate seamless data transfer between systems, ensuring uninterrupted business operations.

  • Implement efficient migration processes to minimize downtime and reduce costs.

  • Plan and execute assigned transformations tasks within deadlines.

  • Create and maintain the import/export configuration files based on the mapping requirements.

  • Investigate, analyze and document reported configuration defects.

  • Fine tune the transformations/configurations.

  • Write clean and well-structured transformations.

  • Review and recommend changes to existing transformations processes.

  • Configure various modules to meet specific business requirements.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot common and daily tasks and events as well as changes.

  • Provide post configuration implementation support.

  • Ensure that the transformations are according to the business requirements.

  • Work directly with BAs and development team to identify needs and resolve software configuration problems.

  • Prepare the setup and deployment of newly implemented transformations.

  • Deploy on non-production environments for testing purposes.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with a programming language - preferably Python with PySpark.

  • Experience in working with relational databases.

  • Experience in working with different types of files.

  • Experience with using API tools like Postman, SoapUI.

  • Experience with using AWS.

  • Ability to express clearly the thought process into pseudo-code

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data migration/transformation issues.

  • Experience with scripting language is a plus.

  • Experience in working with large data sets is a plus.

Competencies

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with various team members including developers, business analysts, technical support, project managers, database administrators.

  • Candidate must show sense of urgency and take end to end ownership of tasks.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve configuration issues in a timely manner.

  • Provide system configuration/transformation support based on changing business needs.

  • Assist in system analysis, design, development, and testing activities.

  • Develop and maintain configuration/transformation policies and procedures.

  • Import/Export data with CSV files and scripts.

  • Independent and self-starter, with familiarity in an agile/adaptable environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years working in Python with PySpark

  • 3+ years working with relational databases

  • 3+ years of working on a data engineer role
