Job Summary: 

The Senior Data Engineer plays a crucial role in analyzing healthcare data, developing actionable insights, and supporting strategic decision-making in healthcare policy and delivery. This role emphasizes understanding payer claims, financial reports, and healthcare trends to support client goals. While some pipeline development is expected, the focus is on the analytics and business application of data.
 You play a lead role on cross-functional teams, including health policy experts, analysts, and healthcare stakeholders, to identify and address data-related challenges and opportunities. Candidates with experience developing, aggregating and/or analyzing hospital and health system financial, tax and regulatory filings such as Medicare Cost Reports and audited financial statements are preferred.  The ideal candidate also will bring experience organizing, managing and/or optimizing data in a cloud computing environment. 
 

 This is not a backend infrastructure role, while some data engineering is , success in this role depends on your ability to apply healthcare data to real-world problems and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders. 
 

 
 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  •         Analyze and interpret healthcare claims data and related data sets to identify patterns, trends, and insights
  •         Generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders
  •         Lead cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into data solutions
  •         Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data analysis, engineering, and visualization
  •         Identify opportunities to improve data infrastructure, processes, and analytics capabilities

  • Support development of lightweight data pipelines and ensure data is ready for analysis (as needed)·        Ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy throughout the data processing lifecycle

  •         Design, develop, and maintain databases, data models, and schemas for efficient storage and retrieval of data for use in your analysis of healthcare 
  •         Oversee development and maintenance of ad hoc lightweight data pipelines, ETL processes, and workflows to collect, clean, and transform data from various sources into usable formats


 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  •         Deep knowledge of health data, multi-payer databases, public healthcare payers, claims processing, health care financial, and/or claims data analytics
  •         Deep knowledge of US healthcare policy, trends, and factors such as eligibility, utilization, cost, and equity
  •         Deep knowledge of state government role in healthcare
  •         Expertise in data analysis and data visualization using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, or similar, and the ability to mentor others
  •         Expertise in data profiling, manipulation, and transformation using tools like Pandas, SQL, SAS or similar
  •         Mastery of data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
  •         Intermediate to expert level experience with data modeling, database management, and cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  •         Experience using statistical and/or fiscal analysis to describe and make inferences about healthcare related topics.
  •         Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
  •         Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to present complex findings in a clear and concise manner


Education and Experience Requirements: 


  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in healthcare administration, data science, statistics, or equivalent work experience preferred

  •         7+ years of experience in SQL
  •         7+ years of experience as a data analyst in the healthcare industry, preferably in claims


 

Physical Requirements: 

  •         Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
