This role is a senior-level technical position focused on designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and software solutions for complex healthcare data. The Senior Data Engineer will lead multiple workstreams, collaborating with onshore and offshore teams to transform raw data into actionable insights that drive business impact. You will be responsible for defining architecture, overseeing implementation, ensuring operational excellence, and mentoring other engineers. The position combines hands-on engineering, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This is ideal for a self-starter with extensive experience in software engineering, data architecture, and healthcare data management.

Accountabilities

  • Design, implement, and oversee technology architecture and software solutions for structured and unstructured healthcare data.
  • Lead multiple workstreams, refining requirements, producing design documents, delivering prototypes, and overseeing implementation with offshore and onshore teams.
  • Create detailed architecture, data-flow, sequence, and process diagrams to communicate system design to engineers, support teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Review pull requests, support UAT, and ensure deployment to production with operational readiness, including dashboards, metrics, alarms, and runbooks.
  • Mentor and lead other engineers, providing hands-on guidance, removing blockers, and taking on the most complex or high-risk tasks.
  • Identify and implement improvements to developer workflows, CI/CD processes, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and documentation.
  • Participate in cross-team design reviews, quarterly roadmap planning, and periodic operational reviews to maintain engineering and operational excellence.
  • Ensure secure handling of PHI and compliance with HIPAA, SOC2, and other regulatory standards.
  • Strategically leverage AI tooling and services to accelerate engineering outcomes.


Requirements
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading software engineers.
  • Expertise in data architecture, ELT/ETL development, data transformation, data modeling, and BI dashboard/report development.
  • 5+ years of experience in Python, Typescript, and SQL, including complex queries, joins, triggers, views, and performance optimization.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), preferably AWS CDK, and deep AWS knowledge with certifications.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver scalable, secure, and robust data pipelines.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and mentorship.
  • Preferred experience: PySpark, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, Kinesis streaming, Golang, Tableau, and familiarity with HIPAA/SOC/HITRUST requirements.
