The Senior Data Engineer relishes working with large volumes of data, enjoys the challenge of highly complex technical contexts, and, above all else, is passionate about data and analytics. They are an expert with modern data architectures, data modeling, ETL design, business intelligence tools and passionately partners with the business to identify strategic opportunities where improvements in data infrastructure creates significant business impact. They need to possess exceptional technical expertise in large scale data warehouse and BI systems.
As a Data Engineer, you will:
Major responsibilities of the position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily
Work with the product owner and data stakeholders to understand the business requirements and implement optimal data solutions
Development and operation of data pipelines that cleanses, structures, and integrates data sets from source systems and third-party data structures into a consumable and accessible format for analyses and reporting with a mind toward accuracy, scalability and high performance
Design and implement framework to continuously monitor and troubleshoot data quality and data integrity issues
Design and provide guidance on building reliable, efficient, scalable, and quality data pipelines with monitoring and alert mechanisms that combine a variety of sources using ETL/ELT tools or scripting languages
Uses innovative and modern tools, techniques and architectures to automate the most-common and tedious data preparation and integration tasks to minimize manual and error-prone processes and improve productivity
Assists with renovating the data management infrastructure to drive automation in data integration and management
Collaborate with information technology resources regarding source system data structures and changes to those structures to ensure consistent business definitions and data quality
Actively collaborate in an agile team
Provide technical guidance and thought leadership

Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent experience
Experience
7+ years hands-on experience with Data Warehousing design & implementation
Experience with a cloud-based warehouse (e.g., Snowflake or Azure Synapse Analytics) is a plus
7+ years hands-on experience supporting high performing ETL processes, including data quality and testing processes
Experience with Informatica is a strong plus
7+ years of strong experience with SQL and ability to write efficient code for high volume data processing
3+ years programming experience with an advanced language (C#, Python, Java, etc.)
Experience with data integration of third-party systems (e.g., Salesforce, Epicor, MuleSoft, etc.)
Experience ensuring data quality across multiple datasets used for analytical purposes
Experience in agile development methodologies
Exposure and experience with a diverse set of modern data architectures is a plus
Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a keen sense of customer service.
Enthusiastic attention to detail
Knowledge of statistical concepts and their application in reporting and data mart applications
Ability to acquire new skills quickly, and thrive in a collaborative team environment
Must be able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of GreatAmerica personnel and external contacts
