Job Summary:
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, debugging, and documenting complex database objects and pipelines, and analyzing, tracking, and resolving data processing related issues. Proactively monitor database performance, work to optimize it, and ensure security compliance. May lead team initiatives and participate in IT projects. Has a knowledge of advanced concepts, practices, and procedures. Demonstrates a keen understanding of both IT and the business we support. Responsible for leading the resolution of problems through analyzing possible solutions utilizing standard procedures. Consider the current and future business environment in the design and upgrade of tools and processes supporting the data platform. Brings enterprise level perspective to designs and solutions. Serves as a technical subject matter expert.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of data engineering projects for specific data domains, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and usability.
- Lead the design and implementation of data solutions for both OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, data modeling, and promote a data-driven culture within the organization.
- Design and implement complex data pipelines and ETL processes to support business objectives.
- Optimize data storage solutions for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives to improve data processes and systems.
- Maintain documentation for data processes, models, and tools to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Champion DataOps methodologies to enhance data delivery, quality, and collaboration across teams.
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to develop and implement data solutions that meet business needs.
- Collaborate with data analysts and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement solutions.
- Ensure data quality and integrity by performing regular data validation and cleaning tasks.
- Administer and manage data storage solutions, ensuring they are optimized for performance and scalability.
- Develop and maintain data models, reports, and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, Excel, and other tools within the Microsoft technology stack.
- Provide on-call third level support for priority issues, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays. Troubleshoot production issues and ensure timely resolution or escalation. Serve as escalation point.
- Mentor and support junior data engineers in their professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and minimum 4-6 years of prior relevant experience.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in designing and implementing data solutions for both OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Experience with real-time data processing technologies such as Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Event Hubs.
- Proficiency in big data technologies like Azure HDInsight and Azure Databricks.
- Strong understanding of data architecture and data modeling principles.
- Experience with data pipeline orchestration and workflow automation using tools like Azure Data Factory.
- Ability to lead cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to drive the adoption of DataOps practices and promote a data-driven culture.
