About the Hiscox Data Team
The Hiscox Data Team is transforming data maturity across the organization to accelerate business growth and efficiency using Data, Analytics, and AI. The virtual team consists of a central function driving alignment, Business Unit teams identifying commercial value and providing execution capacity and technology providing for Data Engineering and ML Operations services.

The Role:
Hiscox US is seeking a Senior Analytics Engineer with a proven background in the design, development, and support of value-driven data analytics capabilities and reports to join our US Data team. The Senior Analytics Engineer is accountable for:
- Thought leadership in analytics capability & asset maturation as well as actioning insights
- Scalable/future-proof design that considers end-to-end dependencies and big-picture value/impact
- Strategy-aligned delivery (data visualization, self-service analytics, standardized reporting, and analytics application & user support)
- Analytics/reporting usability (consistency, efficiency, relevancy, availability, quality, compliance, and governance)
- Data discovery and accessibility progression
The role includes working with business units to understand business needs and strategies, gathering and solutioning reporting and analytics requirements, and identifying and tracking key KPIs/OKRs and user activity to ensure reports are fit for purpose and satisfy business needs/objectives. Analytics Engineers possess a robust set of data visualization and analysis skills in SQL and analytics tools, models, and concepts required in assessing large datasets and building innovative reports to communicate actionable insights in an effective and understandable manner. They are able to explain these tools/capabilities as well as the insights they reveal and can effectively support business areas in evolving them.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and develop intuitive dashboards and data visualization products using Power BI, Tableau, and other analytics tools.
- Architect and model data for self-service and scheduled reports
- Conduct extensive quality control and record-keeping procedures to ensure the highest levels of data integrity.
- Manage and track end-user requests and troubleshoot data issues.
- Develop content and deliver training to business on the use of Power BI, Tableau, and other analytics tools.
- Research best practices procedures pertaining to performance, governance, and standards, and implement them.
- Provide best practices in data visualization and business intelligence software.
- Provide enterprise level solutions and development approach in visualization (e.g. automation, performance testing, version control)
- Perform effective problem solving with business experts, management, and team members to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution.
- Understand business requirements and objectives and derive technical requirements, develop, document, and implement solution design.
- Proactively ensure that deliverables meet or exceed functional, technical, and performance requirements
- Position may be required to perform other duties as required. These essential functions are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the job.
- Actively participate in Analytics CoE and support business needs (including consultation, assistance, and training) across the Enterprise
- Continuously improve and evolve tools, capabilities, and processes to remain relevant and in alignment with strategies/direction across business areas.
Ideal Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of experience developing Analytics Capabilities (including self-service) and Reports using tools like Power BI or Tableau
- Architected multiple dashboard solutions using Power BI or Tableau server features (e.g. Embedded analytics, row level security)
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of data model, architecture, ETL processes and tools (e.g. SSIS, delta loading)
- Ability to creatively tell a story with data to a wide range of audiences (e.g. Management, Executives)
- Working experience in multiple reporting tools sourcing semantic models and Cloud-based data warehouses/lakehouses such as Databricks

Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of scripting languages – Javascript, Python, R, SAS, web-services
- Exposure to any elements of advanced analytics techniques (e.g. use of open library models)
- Strong Insurance domain skills with experience in problem solving and being able to implement and deliver industry specific solutions
- Data architecture/solution architecture experience
Salary range: $115k-$150k
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
