We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior Data Engineer with a strong automation focus to join our growing IT team in downtown Chicago. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented programmer to play a key role in building and optimizing our data infrastructure, streamlining business workflows, and enhancing our Business Intelligence capabilities. This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of three days per week onsite at our Chicago headquarters. The remaining two days may be worked remotely. Please note that the in-office schedule is subject to change based on business needs.
 
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust data transformation and integration scripts using C# .Net and Python.
  • Design and build automated workflows using Azure Logic Apps and custom Azure Web Apps to connect disparate systems and eliminate manual processes.
  • Write efficient and complex data queries using SQL to extract, manipulate, and load data for various analytical and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with our Business Intelligence team to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that enhance reporting and dashboarding (e.g., Qlik, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Utilize tools like Postman for API testing, development, and integration, ensuring seamless communication between applications.
  • Identify opportunities for automation across IT services and propose innovative solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, contribute to best practices, and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, ensuring data accuracy and system stability.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or an equivalent technical diploma/certification combined with relevant professional experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a programming role, with a focus on data manipulation, scripting, or automation.
  • Proficiency in C# .Net and Python for scripting and application development.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Logic Apps and Azure Web Apps for building cloud-based automation and integrations.
  • Solid understanding of and experience with API interactions, including testing with tools like Postman.
  • Strong command of SQL for querying, manipulating, and optimizing data in relational databases.
  • Exposure to or experience with any major Business Intelligence platform (e.g., Qlik, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a keen eye for identifying automation opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with other Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience with Visual Studio Code.
  • Experience using SSIS to extract, transform, and load information into a data warehouse.
