As the Director of Data Engineering, you will lead and shape the company’s data infrastructure and engineering initiatives, enabling a data-driven culture that powers both internal decision-making and customer-facing analytics. You will oversee the development, scaling, and optimization of data platforms, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and secure. This role offers the opportunity to influence architectural direction, implement governance best practices, and mentor a high-performing team of engineers and architects. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across product, engineering, and analytics to deliver impactful data solutions that drive business outcomes and enhance the customer experience. · Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data engineers, analytics engineers, and architects.
· Define and execute data engineering strategies aligned with company objectives and product goals.
· Oversee the design and development of scalable, robust, and secure data pipelines and platforms.
· Drive best practices in data modeling, architecture, infrastructure, and governance.
· Collaborate with data science, analytics, and application teams to deliver high-quality data products.
· Implement and enforce data quality, security, and compliance standards, including GDPR and HIPAA.
· Evaluate and adopt emerging tools and technologies in the data ecosystem.
· Optimize data storage, processing, and access for performance and cost efficiency.
· Manage data engineering budget, roadmap, and project priorities, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
· BS or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
· 7+ years of experience in data engineering, including leadership experience managing teams of engineers.
· 3+ years of experience in agile software development.
· Proven expertise in building and scaling cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
· Strong knowledge of modern data architecture (e.g., lakehouse, data mesh, ELT) and hands-on experience with tools such as Snowflake, dbt, and Prefect.
· Deep experience with data modeling and data warehouse architecture.
· Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data privacy regulations.
· Ability to align multiple functions and stakeholders on technical design choices and strategy.
· Experience working in a product-led or fast-paced startup environment.
· Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make data-driven decisions with limited information.
· Familiarity with ML pipelines and support for data science workflows.
· Bonus: background in DevOps practices, clinical or healthcare operations, or rolling out self-serve NLP queries.
· Competitive base salary range: $208,000 - $260,000, plus eligibility for annual bonus or commission.
