Main purpose

We are hiring a Data Engineer to develop, integrate and support Data Driven Products & Solutions for Front Office Analytics and Data Science. The role focuses on end- to-end ownership from Development till Deployment for production-grade analytics used across trading, analytics, and operations by integrating multiple commodity data providers (primarily Energy), processing large-scale maritime & geospatial datasets. This is a hands-on role as an Individual contributor in Data Science & Engineering team reporting into Regional Head of Data Science & Engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Build and own Commodity Trading related data products, applications & ETL pipelines supporting commercial needs of Trading and Data Science team
• Build, Develop and Maintain Data Transformations and Integration platform, pipelines covering data sets related to Prices, Trade & Commodity Flows, Market Fundamentals and Technicals, Geospatial and Time series data etc.
• Build, Develop & Maintain Data Management APIs for internal teams
• Process large-volume, high-frequency datasets
• Design and implement ETL / ELT pipelines on AWS with Python as primary programming language
• Optimize data models, storage patterns, and queries for performance and cost.
• Implement data quality checks, reconciliation, and monitoring.
• Handle historical data corrections and reprocessing at scale.
• Collaborate with external data vendors, internal Infrastructure & DevOps teams, Data Scientists, Traders, Analyst etc.

• Support releases across Dev / UAT / Prod environments and provide production support. to enterprise-wide standards and best practices

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years in Data Engineering, Data Science, Analytics or any Quantitative background.
  • Strong proficiency in Python & SQL, Analytical & Quantitative skills.  
  • Good knowledge of CI/CD, Docker, Git-based workflows, AWS Cloud with hands-on experience of Amazon Redshift, S3, Postgresql etc., SDLC practices
  • Basic programming knowledge of any front-end development (Web) frameworks or languages
  • Working experience with DevOps practices and production systems.
  • Experience with big data or high-volume datasets.


Nice to Have

• Experience in integrating multiple third-party data providers.

• Experience in Spatial / geospatial analysis, Timeseries datasets

• Exposure Trading, Maritime-Shipping or Commodity Domain

Required qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors/ master’s in technology (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science or any other Quantitative Field)

Department overview

The role reports to Regional Head of Data Science & Engineering with day-to-day engagements with Lead Data Scientists, Analysts and works closely with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Platform Engineers.

The Data Science and Engineering team researches, develops and provides sophisticated analytics and data services to the trading business and other commercial operations at Trafigura. It is a commercially driven, front office aligned team, that works in close partnership with the trading desks, global research and enterprise technology.
