Primary purpose of the role
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and cloud-native data pipelines in AWS to power data-driven decision-making across the organisation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, quality, and integrity of data at scale. Key responsibilities
- Design and build scalable and efficient data pipelines using AWS-native services
- Implement robust data ingestion, transformation, and delivery workflows
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across various systems
- Collaborate with solution architects, software engineers, and data analysts
- Leverage services such as AWS Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, Redshift, IAM, CloudWatch, and Step Functions
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and infrastructure improvement initiatives
- Maintain clear documentation of data workflows, pipelines, and standards
- Follow cloud security best practices and contribute to a compliant data environment
Key relationships and good knowledge
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer with strong hands-on knowledge of AWS
- Proficiency with Python and SQL in a data engineering context
- Solid experience with AWS services: Glue, Lambda, S3, Redshift, Athena, IAM, CloudWatch, Step Functions
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT pipelines, handling structured and unstructured data
- Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and governance practices
- Knowledge of cloud security and access control best practices
- Comfortable working in collaborative, agile, cross-functional teams
- Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written
Nice to have
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics, Solutions Architect)
- Experience with orchestration tools like Apache Airflow
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Exposure to Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
- Background in financial services or other regulated industries
